Primordial harvest invites you to unearth the forgotten bounty of a bygone era, one when ancient flora thrived! With the help of a Sniffer you can revive these long lost crops. Cultivate these rare plants, each with unique traits and properties, to transform your farm into a living relic!

Crops

Spireshuck

This odd crop sprouts thick spiraling vines that block mobs other than the player from passing through. The aroma of a fruiting spireshuck plant weakens and repels some undead mobs like zombies and skeletons. The vines produce a large kernel-like accessory fruit. The fruit has a metallic taste and eating one will temporarily sap your strength. It will also ward off the effects of insomnia, including phatom attacks! The fruit can also be brewed into a potion of weakness. The seeds can also be used to craft pink dye.

Rumblepea

The rumblepea is a temperamental crop that must be handled with care. Its delicate root system attracts bacteria that can boost nearby crop growth. The rumblepea produces a highly explosive substance that it uses to deter predators and trampling. While the fruit of the rumblepea lacks a distinct flavour, it has a feint smell of rotten eggs when freshly picked. Eating the fruit will release a gust of steam that can toggle some nearby blocks like redstone components. The seeds can also be used to craft gunpowder.

Paleogourd

The paleogourd sprouts thick roots that stabilize nearby soil preventing trampling and erosion. The largest specimens create vast root networks, securing soil up to 5 blocks away! While the fruit is safe to eat, it has a grainy texture and tastes very salty. It is better used to brew the portion of fortitude which reduces damage taken by 20%! The seeds can also be used to craft brown dye.

Inspirations

This mod was created for EC's ModJam in 2025. The theme of this jam was synergy which was used as the basis for this mod. I knew I wanted to do something with plants for the jam and remembered "The Three Sisters". This is a companion planting technique where corn (spireshuck), climbing beans (rumblepea), and squash (paleogourd) are planted together. The cornstalks provide a trellis for the beans to climb while the beans fix nitrogen into the soil and the squash covers the ground with its leaves preventing weeds from taking hold. This set of crops is also based on the "Three Primes" of alchemy where each crop is visually and mechanically based on a different prime. The rumblepea incorporates sulfur which represents soul and combustibility. The spireshuck represents spirit and volatility. The paleogourd represents the body and non-volatility.

Future Plans

In the future I plan to add several new plants that continue the theme of alchemical inspiration, likely drawing from the seven planetary metals. I would also like to spend more time improving the textures for the mod, or perhaps find an artist to work with me on them. While I really like the work on some of the textures like the spreading roots of the paleogourd, other textures like the seeds and fruit feel a bit flat and are definetly programmer art.
